Starwood CD Review
By Barbara Fara/Music Incider
Starwood: Lizzy-Vocals, Guitar. Joey Scott-Drums, Vocals. Marten Andersson-Bass, Vocals. Joe Steals-Lead, Rhythm and Slide Guitars, Vocals.
I have to be honest here-Starwood is one of my favorite new bands. I fucking love the sound. It is glamorous and punk like the New York Dolls. It is sleazy fucking brilliance like Cheap Trick. It is in your face metal like Kiss. It is Glam Rock. It is everything and more. -Starwood isn't a throwback to the likes of Motley Crue and Poison.
Once upon a time, Rock and Roll was a good time. Those times are back with Starwood. -I love Lizzy's vocals that remind me of Robin Zander and Vince Neil. I love the fact that the whole band backs them giving the music a punk feel. This is good shit. Musicians need to play all kinds of fucking music.
Joey Scott is a proper and awesome monster on the drums. - And Marten Andersson is Glenn Hughes love child on bass. - I love Joe's Stealís guitar playing. -Let's be honest, there isn't absolutely anything that is groundbreaking here BUT here is a band that does it better than The Darkness and the newer bands that are trying this out. If you can't be original, do it better. Starwood manages to do it BETTER than the Universal bands that are out there struggling to overcome the one hit wonder syndrome. -In Starwood, we have a bunch of seasoned musicians who fucking absolutely rock.
Starwood has the ability to take over the alternative genre completely from bands like The Killers. Starwood has a punk thing happening that is ANGRY yet catchy-listen to yourself start to sing lyrics from Social Zero while you are in line at the bank. The lyrics go like this-I can feel it, it won't be long now. Suffocation under a black cloud. Social weirdo anti-hero-and so on. So the dark thing that makes them Metal Blade material is there.
Old school Lizzy fans won't be disappointed. We are just missing the blood this time around. -If It Ain't Broke, Brake It! has not left my CD player since I got it in the mail. It is punk. It is rock and roll, and it is absolutely fucking outstanding. Fans of The Clash, LA Guns, and Motley Crue look out, because you are going to fucking love Starwood. I love having favorite bands, and there isn't a track on this CD that sucks.
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, BRAKE IT! gets a TEN out of a possible TEN OH FUCK YEAH'S in the book of Music Incider. In case you were confused, you MUST HAVE THIS CD. What are you waiting for?
-My favorite tracks are Subculture, All my
Girlfriends Have Boyfriends, and Social Zero. Once you go get it, you can
figure out what yours are.
